چکیده

Increasing the net value of forestry side-streams has both ecological as well economic benefits for emerging biorefining industries. Spruce bark represents one nature’s abundant sources valuable extractives. In this study, impact storage on quality and quantity Norway spruce (Picea abies) extractives was examined a function time, environmental conditions season (i.e., winter or summer). The from stored saw logs extracted with an accelerated solvent extractor (ASE) at 120 °C hexane water. produced extracts were analysed qualitatively quantitatively by gas chromatography flame ionisation detector (GC-FID) high-performance liquid (HPLC) methods. total amount phenolics in water evaluated Folin–Ciocalteu method, while carbohydrate lignin content extractive-free estimated acidic hydrolysis methanolysis. According to results, temperature dramatically influenced chemical composition degradation rate After period 24 weeks, winter-stored log retained 22% more hydrophilic than summer-stored bark. Lipophilic extractives, however, 14% higher during summer. Notably, average monomeric stilbenoids 61% period. initial phenolic significantly winter, but about equal cellulose dry decreased 17% 11% 13% 6% summer, respectively. By contrast, hemicelluloses increased 26% 15% 30% Overall, it demonstrated that seasonal factors greatly affected which should be considered planning stages raw materials procurement chain.

Development in Norway Spruce, Picea abies'

A pulse-treatment of embryos of Picea abies (L.) Karst with cytokinin efficiently and reproducibly induces the coordinate de novo formation of bud primordia from subepidermal cells. The cytokinin treatment also affects the germinative development of the embryo; chloroplast maturation is delayed, and cell elongation is completely suppressed. We have analyzed the protein patterns in developing sp...

Seasonal variation in photochemical activity and hardiness in clones of Norway spruce (Picea abies).

We investigated changes in photochemical activity and cold hardiness of detached needles of three clones of Picea abies (L.) Karst. by measuring variable chlorophyll fluorescence (F(v)/F(m)), before and after artificial freezing, from September to June. Photochemical activity varied considerably during the study, but only minor differences in photochemical activity among the clones were observe...

Cell Wall-Bound Phenolics from Norway Spruce (Picea abies) Needles

Secondary products, such as phenolics, accumulate predominantly in the form of hydrophilic conjugates in the vacuoles (intraprotoplasmic storage) of plants [1—3]. Also there are many reports on their extraprotoplasmic location, e.g. as exudates [4] or cell wall components. The latter include the polymer lignin [5], as well as monomeric hydrolyzable phenolics, which are mainly hydroxycinnamic ac...

Influence of road salting on the adjacent Norway spruce (Picea abies) forest

Winter deicing and traffic spreads salt to road-adjacent Norway spruce trees in the form of spraying and salt slops. Our use of Na36Cl revealed roots as the main pathway of salt uptake. One-shot application of a concentrated Na36Cl solution to spruce saplings by both irrigation and spraying causes macroscopic damage to the needles and affects the needle phyllosphere. Irrigation affects the tree...

The influence of magnesium deficiency on carbohydrate concentrations in Norway spruce (Picea abies) needles.

Both short- and long-term effects of Mg deficiency on carbohydrate metabolism were investigated in 6-year-old clonal Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) trees cultivated in sand culture with an optimal supply of nutrients, except for Mg which was supplied at 0.203, 0.041 and 0.005 mM to provide optimal, moderately deficient and severely deficient Mg supply, respectively. Annual changes in c...
